Realogistics received a commission from a Hong Kong public transportation agency to arrange the delivery of new steel rails from the dock/container warehouse to the tram depot for replacing worn-out rails on the roads.
1、Cargo Information:
Steel rails, transported in 8 x 45’ and 1 x 40’FR containers, consolidated from various parts of the world to Hong Kong.
2、Operational Challenges:
① Given the efficient land use in Hong Kong, the depot is built under an elevated bridge with power cables running underneath. Extra caution is required when using a crane truck to unload the steel rails to avoid any contact with the cables or the underside of the bridge, which could cause damage.
② The materials storage area is located next to the vehicle parking area. To avoid disrupting daily operations, unloading can only be scheduled during mid-day hours (10:00 – 12:00, 14:00 – 16:00), outside of peak passenger times, and during the lunch break when the drivers return to the depot.
3、Operational Demonstration:
① The trailer arrives at the dock early in the morning, waits for the ship to unload the flat rack containers, and then waits until after the morning peak hours of the public transportation company to enter the depot.
② The trailer and crane truck (carrying a forklift) arrive at the depot simultaneously, carefully pulling the steel rails out of the container and unloading them onto the ground.
③ The steel rails are stacked one by one to save storage space and to prevent them from toppling over.
The trailer subcontractor used by Realogistics in Hong Kong had previously handled deliveries for the same client. With their extensive operational experience, they successfully completed the client’s entrusted task, receiving high praise and establishing a long-term partnership with the client.
